SX1GTC - Special event to celebrate 15 years since the founding of Greek Telegraphy Club

SX1GTC is the official commemorative station for the 15 years of Greek Telegraphy Club (GTC). The station will be activated during the month of November 2013. The first 30 radio amateurs who will work SX1GTC on most bands (1 contact per band counts) will be eligible for a medal, which will be mailed to them absolutely free of charge. The next 30 stations will be awarded with an attractive diploma, also free of charge.

In every case a station can ask for getting one of his qso on a nice wooden plaque with engraved qso details. The cost will be announced soon. Please check SX1GTC qrz page or www.raag.org GTC section for more updated information.

This activity is devoted in the memory of our young colleague SY2ALT (+) who passed away lately.

The Greek Telegraphy Club was formed in October 1998, based on an idea of George SV1NA (SK), as an independent Hellenic club, and aims

•to support the use of Morse code on the ham radio bands,
•to encourage newcomers to the CW mode, and
•to foster and maintain friendship among radio telegraphers.

GTC is further acting as a strong influence against efforts to eradicate CW as a mode of radio amateur communications.
Before making any decision to form up a CW club in our country, we were watching for years actions of similar aiming groups and organizations in Europe and elsewhere, and finally we did it, in order to support and share the common effort for the promotion, protection, and defence of Morse Code, especially under the current conditions.
Here in SV-land, the majority of hams is still far away from thoughts about the non use of code during the ham exams, but as times change rapidly, we wish to make ourselves strong enough to fight against any present and future threat of our beloved CW code.

Although Greece is a small country, it has a large number of well experienced CW operators, who have been at sea for years as wireless officers, serving merchant navy, which still remain one of the biggest fleets in the world even to our days.
Today many of them are radio amateurs, and act as CW operators on the ham bands, hitting the air waves, having great fun while working on their favorite mode.
Fortunately for us, there is also a large number of young newcomers, who love Morse code.

Membership is completely free of any charge. The officers of the club are all the founding members, a number which consists of twenty two people.
However, for a more flexible operation of the club, an executive council is in progress. All inquiries go to gtc@raag.org
